200 Characters: A Day in the Life of the Short Message Service

Publisher: Ambiguous Horse

This awesome little book presents 200 text messages people from around the world had saved in their mobile phones. The idea was to give some permanence to these often-transient messages that hold a special place in the receivers' hearts.

While many of the details were intentionally referential of mobile technology, the design and typography is decidedly not "tech-y".

One phone reference is how the number of characters in the book's title reduces as each message is displayed—i.e., the fourth message's page has the title block reading '196 Characters'.

Another reference is the page numbers are in the same location as the reader's thumbs would be, since most people use their thumbs to text.
